The Dedica is known to have that "issue". Before the bottomless, I wasn't able to fit my 200ml cappuccino cup and a scale. This was a nice quality of life improvement. Ability to fit higher dose baskets, e.g 16g/18g+. The 51mm portafilfter is narrow and so higher dose baskets tend to be quite deep and don't fit the original.

You pull off the squishy tip from the steam wand and attach the silicone tubing around the hard plastic piece, then attach the squishy tip over the tubing. Make sure to attach it well so it doesn't blow off with the steam pressure. Works like a charm. Looks like this: https://postimg.cc/8721zXCj.
